WordPress is the world’s most popular content management tool. It runs on a server: PHP, a MySQL database, a theme and plugins all run there. That means someone has to maintain that server permanently – updating the WordPress core, the plugins and the PHP version, and keeping up with security news.
Serverless, without servers! In this approach the website is a set of static files delivered by a cloud platform, and only the functions that actually do something run on demand. There is no server to update and no database to maintain. The contact form on this page also uses Cloudflare serverless functions to process applications securely and send email confirmations.
Comparing the two approaches, the differences show up in three places. Security: with WordPress it is only as good as the care someone puts into updates, while in a serverless setup the platform maintains most of it. Cost: WordPress requires fixed hosting and maintenance time, while serverless charges for the work actually performed. Growth: more traffic means a more powerful server with WordPress, but automatic scaling with serverless.
There is no single right answer for everyone. If your site depends on complex content management or a large database, WordPress can still be the right choice. For most small business websites, a serverless setup delivers the same result with less maintenance, a smaller security risk and predictable costs.
